Dr. Izak Morin

Dr. Izak Morin, M.A. born in Wundi Biak on October 8, 1959. He held the position of Deputy Academic Manager (Humanity and Social Studies) at the Papua Language Institute (PLI). He works under the leadership of the Academic Manager to design, develop, and implement programs teaching English, Indonesian, Russian, Tok Pisin, and culture-based programs such as Ethnography of Papua, Languages in the Land of Papua, and other things other things related to language and social.

Dr. Morin has a teacher education background. He completed the Bachelor of Education Program (Drs) at the English Study Program-Department of Language and Arts Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Cenderawasih University (UNCEN), 1986. Then he attended the Graduate Diploma Program in TEFL at the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Sydney University (Diploma on Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of Sydney), 1988. Then he continued at the same university in the Master of Arts (MA) Program in TESOL at the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, Sydney University (Master of Arts on Teaching English as a Second Language – TESOL Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of Sydney), 1990. Finally, he also completed his studies at the Undergraduate Program (S3) at the Department of Languages and Linguistics, School of Humanties and Social Sciences, College of Arts, Social Science and Commerce, La Trobe University, Melbourne, Victoria-Australia, 2018.

He worked as a lecturer (PNS) at the English Study Program, Department of Language and Arts Education, FKIP UNCEN (1987-2021). He teaches 'Translating & Interpreting', 'Cross Cultural Understanding (CCU)," "English for Special Purposes (ESP)," "Sociolinguistics & Ethnolinguistics," and "Bilingualism & Language Instruction." Apart from teaching in the English Study Program, he also teaches English General Courses (MKU) at the Faculty of Law (FH), Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Public Health (FKM), Physical Education, Health and Recreation Study Program (Penjaskesrek) Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP) from 1990-2013. Then after completing the doctoral program he still teaches English as an MKU in the PG PAUD Study Program, FKIP and in the Public Administration Study Program (FISIP) and the Social Anthropology Study Program (FISIP) from 2019-2021.

Apart from teaching, he also held several positions at UNCEN such as Head of the English Study Program (1993-1996), Head of the Department of Language and Arts Education (1997-2000), Member of the Senate of the Teaching and Education Faculty (1993-2000), Head of the Monitoring Team and Evaluation of Due-like Project Batch III at Cenderawasih University (2003-2004), Part-time translator and interpreter at Border Liason Meetings (BLM) meetings between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (2000-2007), Translator and interpreter part-time interpreter at BP LNG Tangguh Papua (2004-2006), Indonesian Language Instructor at the Indonesian Language Course held at Vanimo from 10 February – 10 April 2014 for government officials, the private sector, and journalists in Sandaun Province, PNG.

As a lecturer Dr. Morin conducted several studies which individually included 5 studies and 2 studies as a group. He also publishes research results and ideas in national/local journals (2 articles), international journals (12 articles), local online sites (15 articles), which are presented in seminars/conferences (7 papers), and Book Chapter (4 chapters).
